~ Doug ~
In the US it's illegal to be dressed indecently, but not illegal to crossdress. Also, where would you draw the line? Some people might claim that all the boys wearing girls skinny jeans are crossdressing.
~ Rod ~
is it legal to crossdress when outside as a female
~ Andy M ~
epilators have been suggested. I've just bought a Braun and done my first epilate session. So far so good, but still a long way from hair free legs (which are essential for any tights wearing!!!)
~ Adrian ~
With winter on the way I shall be cutting down on heating bills by wearing opaque tights with a wool kilt.
~ 2craze2 ~
@badleg: Try Elbeo Sheer Magic or Elbeo Caresse. Size XL is available. They really do help...
~ 2craze2 ~
Ordered some tights from Emilio Cavallini, they're great! Good stretch, warm, opaque. Good replacement for my regular sock-wearing.

Reasons not to wear tights

posted Sunday, 11 June 2006

Geradenby Geraden

Women give many reasons not to wear tights (pantyhose). Here are ten of the top reasons.

  1. tights dont fit properly and are uncomfortable
    • Think about it - the stretch qualities of nylon and lycra are such that there is no reason why tights shouldn't fit well. If they don't, it is probably because you are wearing the wrong size or style, or you are wearing cheap quality tights. And just because you are only one size, it does not mean that one size tights will fit you!

  2. tights are poor value for money.
    • Well, that certainly applies to the ill-fitting, cheap tights that most women seem to pick almost at random from the supermarket shelves. Being quite often too small for the wearer, the cheap yarn is under maximum strain from the moment they are put on, so no surprise that the slightest mishap cause a fatal ladder.
    • If you buy good quality tights of the right size, you will find not only will they fit better but the is fabric more forgiving of minor mishaps, so the tights will last much longer. So much so that the cost per wearing may even be less than that of your cheap one-size multipacks. And the wearing experience will be beyond all comparison better.

  3. tights are unnecessary
    • Of course they are, but so are a lot of other things that women in particular seem to be addicted to: including all kinds of cosmetics, manicures, pedicures, hair styling, high heeled shoes – need I go on?

  4. tights are unhealthy
    • Delicate subject! I take it we are talking about thrush and other fungal infections? The problem is almost certainly not the tights at all. These infections love warm, moist conditions. Fact: nylon wicks away moisture more effectively than cotton. Cotton has better absorbency but that means that it retains moisture. Hmm: cotton next to the skin = warmth + moisture. Check what you are wearing in the area concerned! Also it goes without saying that you should take medical advice.
    • On the other hand (on the other leg?) the medical benefits of wearing tights include improved circulation, prevention/alleviation of varicose veins, protection against leg cramps and against strains and sprains when active, protection against cancer-causing UV in sunlight, protection against biting and stinging insects.

  5. tights are unfashionable
    • Unfashionable by whose standards? by the standards of today's can't-be-bothered, dress-down, slobby young (and not so young) women? Professional women, and those who care about their appearance and the impression they are creating, continue to wear hosiery, which finishes off an outfit elegantly. Without tights, the expression 'spoiling the ship for a hap'orth of tar' comes to mind.

  6. tights are too hot / too cold
    • Oh come – with denier weights ranging from 6 den to 100den + this excuse really will not wash! You just have to choose the right weight and style for the weather. Don't you do that with everything else?

  7. tights don't last
    • see what was said above about making sure you get the right size and quality. In addition to which, you need the right tights for your lifestyle. If you have a problem with tights lasting, you may need to try a heavier denier.

  8. tights don't look good (e.g. with open toed shoes)
    • who says? You can get sheer toe tights, bare toe tights. or even divided-toe tights ('tohos'). Apart from that, tights disguise the blemishes that most people have in their legs unless they are under 20 and have perfect skin. Tights also prevent the intensely unappealing (not to mention unhealthy) white, blotchy, goose-pimply look which bare legs have in cold weather. Another fact: - cold bare legs cause the body to lay down its own insulation. It is called fat. Tights are slimming in more ways than one!

  9. other people think you shouldn't wear them.
    • For Women:
Many women know that men prefer to see legs in hose. And those women see and enjoy the extra attention that they get when they are wearing. However there is a conspiracy among women to deny this very obvious fact. They discourage other women from wearing because they cannot be bothered to wear themselves, and do not want anyone else looking better in hose than they do without hose.
    • For Men:
So what – they "look good, feel good and by golly they do you good". A man from any century up to the 18th would be delighted to find himself in our century because hosiery is so much better now than it was, and he would want to wear what is available today. He would not understand how something so practical and elegant should be restricted to the female sex. The Victoran neo-Puritan fashion differed from the original Puritan one only in that women were allowed (within limits) to wear soft and attractive clothing; men's clothes still, as with the Puritans, had to be as unappealing, ugly and uncomfortable as possible. We men still live in the fringes of this dim Victorian fashion shadow, though the women escaped, partially in the 1920s and fully in the 1960s.

  10. men like tights
    • Ahh - now we are getting somewhere! Men like looking at legs in tights. They like stroking your tights. Some of them like the feel so much that they like to wear them themselves. You would not wish to wear something that men actually like wearing, would you? Who knows what kinds of undesirables of the opposite sex you might attract if you wore tights?
    • Do you know the profile of a typical male hosiery wearer? He is educated, often to degree level, straight, married, with children, in a successful profession or business career. He may be in his 30s or 40s, though many are younger or older than that. Most male wearers are either accepted or even encouraged in their wearing by their wives or girlfriends. Most have experimented with other items of 'female' attire and decided that it is not for them. Few go further down the cross-dressing route than just wearing tights, and many, particularly those who wear tights made for men, would deny that they are cross-dressing at all.

I would add to your comment on the 7th reason that I had tights that had lasted 3 or 4 years. It is not exceptional at all, even with mid-scale brands. Some were thrown away not because of runs, but because the waistbelt was loose for example.

Hello Geraden, Comment on #7. I have some tights that are almost 3 ½ years old and still going strong. Hope they never change them. Best made tights I have ever seen.

I absolutely love to see women's legs in tights, especially 10 denier or under. They're sensual, they look beautiful and I can only describe the feel of them as "hand candy".

I'm 31 year old and i have a family, but my wife she offer me to weare tights, and i did, not for looking good legs, or for any kind of fun, but because it's cold in here in Alaska. Personaly i don't care who what thinking about man in tights. I see nothing wrong, beside, all tights was made for man first, then for ladies, but for some reason man refuse to weare them, and ladies steel tights from man, So originaly i wearing my own tights, but thick in winter, and thin in sumer.

I don't see what's wrong with tights! I don't know why people refuse to wear them. I LOVE them!!! But, unlike this article, I choose the brighter colors (this may have something to do with me being a teen). I like black and white striped, bright green, yellow, blue, and purple. I am also a big fan of knee highs. But, once again, I like the super flambouyant ones. And I do not wear them to impress anyone, including guys. I wear them because they're me and I love them. :) TIGHTS ARE GREAT!
