Tips for Message Pad users.

The message pad is a useful little feature. You can leave short messages here and the last 10 messages are displayed and can be read by anyone.

If you want to respond to a published item, don't use the message pad - please leave a comment by clicking on the comment link at the foot of the item.

For general comments, greetings and 'I was here' messages, the message pad is ideal. However it does have a few little quirks, so I have provided these tips to help you use the feature successfully.

• I recommend that you type your name (or nickname) in the name box FIRST. Then you can concentrate on your message.
• When you click in the message box, be warned that everything that is typed there will disappear instantly. Therefore it is best to use the cursor keys, not the mouse, when you are composing your blog board message.
• If you accidentally clear the message box, you can get the contents back by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing Z.
• Please do not enter links on the message pad. Two reasons: - you cannot enter a clickable link, and long links cause the horizontal scroll bar to appear, affecting the appearance of the page for all users. Messages with links will be deleted if this happens.
• When you have finished, click on the [»»] button next to your name. (You did remember to type your name, didn't you?)
• It is quite likely that nothing will happen. Do not click the [»»] button again!
• Currently there is a short delay before messages appear on the message pad. Because of a spate of spam entries, I check messages before they appear. I will remove this delay as soon as it is safe to do so.
