Every so often we do something new on this blog. I cannot claim all the credit this time, however.
One of my visitors, and fellow UK resident, Ldudno, suggested an art gallery of men in hose from historical paintings. This was mooted on the forum LAUF, with a suggestion that the forum should add a section for this purpose. There was some support from myself and others, and a few suggestions were made of paintings for inclusion.
It has to be said that LAUF does not really lend itself to this kind of thing, being basically a non-graphics site. Nevertheless I suggested that if the admins of LAUF did not want to run with the idea, I would take it up myself. Well, they haven't, and I am!
So this post introduces a new section on the blog called "Tights in Art". It uses Blog-City's photo album feature. From today it will be permanently linked from the menu under 'Misc'. It starts with a few paintings suggested by Ldudno, Kaj and myself. I am hoping that readers will make suggestions for additions as time goes on.
If you know of a worthy candidate for inclusion, showing men wearing tights, please leave a comment or drop me a line. I want to focus mainly but not exclusively on portraits contemporary with their subject.
The idea is to demonstrate to any doubters that tights were worn by men long before women got their legs into them!
