One of the risks that you run when you wear tights and shorts around the house is that the doorbell will ring, and that you are the one who gets to answer it. Today I was wearing black opaques (nothing special, just Tesco's best multipacks, £3.50 for 3, reduced to £1.50). I was also wearing dark blue shorts and a t-shirt, with trainers.
I had just finished laying the fire for today (we have an open fire in the lounge at Christmas) and had fortunately washed my hands afterwards, when the doorbell rang. Until recently I would have let someone else answer it, or raced upstairs to pull off my shorts and pull on a pair of long trousers. I thought however that the doorbell might have been rung by my married daughter paying a visit. She is used to seeing me in tights and has never commented on it.
And even if it had been someone else, what difference would it make? I don't get too bothered about people seeing me in tights these days - after all it is only clothing. (Ok, rather nice clothing, and it has lots of benefits as well as making you feel good and relaxed, but it is clothing still!)
So when the door bell rang, I answered it in blue shorts and black opaque tights. A youngish man was standing back from the door as I opened it. 'Taxi sir?' he asked. Sure enough, there was a taxi (or rather a private hire car) parked outside the house. We recently went through a spate of taxis ordered by our neighbours arriving at our door by mistake. I replied that we had not ordered a taxi and as I did so, I saw that the driver's eyes travelled downwards to my legs and widened fractionally. I was about to direct him next door, but he then asked me if I knew where Oak Tree House was. I told him where I thought it was. It seems someone had given him my house number as Oak Tree House (or maybe that was just a ploy so he could ring my bell and ask for directions). He apologised and got back into his car.
Anyway he said nothing about what I was wearing, and the whole encounter was very much a non-event. As I have said before - just act naturally and confidently in any situation, and there will be no problem. Act like there is a problem, and most likely there will be one.
That actually happened to me recently too. Argos was due to make a delivery
to our flat, but they came earlier than expected. I was going to get back
into my jeans a bit later in lieu of their arrival, but they caught me
off-guard. I only had time to throw a bathrobe on after I buzzed them in.
The robe went down to my knees and I only had slippers on with no socks.
So, quite obvious that I was wearing off-black semi-sheers.
Cedric - thanks for the comment.
When I was younger I would would only wear tignts under pants. Then one day
I went to the gym to work out but had forgot to bring a jock to wear with
my shorts. Not wanting to miss the work out I slipped off my pants and put
on my shorts. The tights were light tan colour so didn't show to much. I
did get some stares while I worked out from both men and women, but after
awhile I did not pay any attention to who was looking. I must say it was
kind of exciting that very first day. Now I wear tights with shorts all
the time. At the gym, at home and when I go for walks.
