I must admit I have not been wearing tights much recently. My excuse is that it is summer: too warm to wear under long trousers. I wear shorts most of the time, and I have let my leg hair grow for the last month or so, which makes wearing tights not so good.
My leg hair is just on the ginger side of blond, so not all that noticeable, but not invisible either. However my nearest and dearest prefer my legs to have hair. I have been doing quite a lot of garden work too, and whether I have worn long trousers or shorts to do it, tights would have been too warm in the one case, and too fragile in the other.
However one of the problems I have is leg pain, or to be more precise, an ache in the calf muscle - but only in my left leg. There is no visible cause. It does not hurt when I sit, or when I exercise, as in brisk walking or working in the garden. When I stand or walk slowly (as in going round a store or supermarket) it can be quite painful. Wearing support tights helps - and the more painful it is, the higher support factor I tend to wear.
My favourites are the Marks and Spencer's Leg Care support range, and of those, medium support is usually best. Having been plagued by my leg pain quite a bit recently I decided today I would wear my M&S medium support in' illusion' - more or less matching my skin tone. I wore them with some dark green Craghopper shorts that are about 3" above the knee when standing. There was a ladder in one of the legs of my tights, but I was only going to wear around the house, so I made sure it was at the back and wore the tights anyway.
We are having a bit of a clear out, and have advertised several items in the Bargain Pages advertiser, including children's bicycles. What I did not realise (or maybe the word should be 'remember'!), was that my wife had agreed to let someone come round to see one of the bikes this morning while she was at work. So when our doorbell rang I thought it would be the postman and I opened the door.
Instead of the postman, there were two youngish ladies on the doorstep, asking about the bike we had advertised. They were both pleasant, attractive and articulate, with, strangely enough, American accents. They would have had a good view of my legs, being on a slightly lower level than I was. I behaved perfectly normally with them, and established which bike they were interested in. They did not appear to notice anything unusual about my dress, but I was very conscious of the fact that I had a ladder on the back of my leg.
I had to take them across the drive to the garage to show them the bike, so they may well have noticed my laddered tights, but they showed no sign that they had done so. I also had to kneel down to verify the wheel size, and to put more air in the tyres.
I reckoned that if I made no big deal about my legwear (ladder or no ladder), neither would they. And so it turned out. They did not buy the bike, they went away to 'think about it' - which is a polite way of saying that they were not interested. I still do not know whether they noticed, but if they did, they did nor care.
And my legs felt better for wearing some support for a change.
