In the US it's illegal to be dressed indecently, but not illegal to crossdress. Also, where would you draw the line? Some people might claim that all the boys wearing girls skinny jeans are crossdressing.
~ Rod ~
is it legal to crossdress when outside as a female
~ Andy M ~
epilators have been suggested. I've just bought a Braun and done my first epilate session. So far so good, but still a long way from hair free legs (which are essential for any tights wearing!!!)
~ Adrian ~
With winter on the way I shall be cutting down on heating bills by wearing opaque tights with a wool kilt.

@badleg: Try Elbeo Sheer Magic or Elbeo Caresse. Size XL is available. They really do help...

Ordered some tights from Emilio Cavallini, they're great! Good stretch, warm, opaque. Good replacement for my regular sock-wearing.

Reflections on Hits

posted Friday, 23 February 2007

Geradenby Geraden

I am not posting much about hosiery these days – my blogging time is taken up working on the layout, rather than on the content. This is fortunate, because I do not have much content in the pipeline. The First of March will see the publication of Mike and Olga's third Wonderful World of Welts, and that is about it!

I have put the hits chart back on the home page, and very gratifying it is too. Six months ago we were running at under 400 hits per day, but in the last six months there have been three big boosts to the number of hits. The first was in October last year when Harisnya wrote an article called Pantyhose for Men on Wikipedia. He kindly included a link to this site from there. That roughly doubled the daily hits from around 400 to 800 or 900.

The second was at the beginning of February, when – with the 'No nonsense' article – the blog came to the attention of the major hosiery companies. The hits went up to around 1,600. The latest occurred about a week ago, with the hits at around 3,000 per day since then. I think, though I cannot be sure, that the new look of the blog has contributed to this success. It now looks like what it always has been - a clean site. The previous dark background could have been ambiguous.

A big thank you to all my readers and supporters!

I much preferred the last layout. It was more like a website with different areas for links and articles. Now it just seems like a diary of comments. Geraden, have you thought about moving away from the blog format to a more flexable traditional layout, you could even get a more memorable domain name. even gereden.com or something? what ever you do, keep up the good work, regards, mark

Hi Mark

I am sorry, but it seems I cannot please everyone!

I have made two main changes – one to the colour scheme, and the other to the layout. I have explained why I changed the colour scheme, and you have not commented on that, so neither will I.

People felt the other layout was too crowded, too 'busy'. I had tried to cram too much in. So I decided that one of the gutters had to go. Fortunately I have a footer, into which I can put things, but not everything. Also on migration to Version 5 I lost the very useful menu. This meant that a lot of things would not be accessible unless I made a custom home page. That is why the links are in a table, and still I have not got everything I had before.

So I am not going to go back to the overcrowded format that I had before. The hits show that I am doing the right thing, though there are doubtless many other improvements to be made, and I will gladly take suggestions on those. One thing I have done is to restore the latest entry to the home page.

By the way, watch the hit counter: as I write it stands at 299,457. Today it should reach 300,000.

I have thought about owning a domain, which would encompass this blog, and maybe other things. It is best not to act prematurely. I did once do a search on geraden.com, and found that it was free. If you check now you will see that it is taken. I believe that if you do a 'whois' lookup for a domain and it is free, the owners of the lookup service will step in and register it and maybe sell it on to a web host, so that they can later sell it onto you at a profit. Sneaky.

I have learned from working with some web page developers, that the way the content is put on a page has a great deal to do with how a search engine sees it. For example search engines can’t read a picture and many times the text on a page is actually in a picture type format. With the new software being used, it is more likely to be putting the text on the pages in a better way for search engines to see. The large increase of hits is a very positive indication of two things. One, people are finding this blog better, for whatever reason, and two they are interested and searching for the type of content that is on these pages. Does that mean our numbers are growing?

Our numbers are growing; that seems certain. I doubt whether that has affected the hit count very much, and certainly not so dramatically. I think the cleaner look is more welcoming and I think that some people were put off by the previous light text on dark background, which is a feature commonly encountered on X rated sites.

The mystery about the recent large increase in the number of hits per day has been solved.

Blog City have admitted that, for several weeks prior to 11th April, they had been double-counting hits in the monthly totals (from which the hits chart is derived). However we are assured that the global total is correct.

I have therefore halved the number of hits shown on my chart for the period 1 February to 10 April 2007. While this may not be 100% correct, it certainly gives a truer picture than before.
