In one of my semi-regular forays into TKMaxx I picked up a pair of Couture Super Gloss Tights. This is a new brand for me, though I have heard other wearers enthuse about them. They cost £2.99, the price tag announcing that the normal price was £5.00. Naturally I selected the Extra Large size, which unfortunately was available only in black. Black can of course look very good, sexy even, on the right kind of skin.
Mine is not the right skin colour for black: it is too pale and pinkish. I must have Celtic blood in me, judging by my red hair (well, it was red once!) and freckles. In fact my mother's great grandfather came from Newcastle upon Tyne, which is in the next county to Scotland, so I reckon I have some Scots blood in me somewhere.
Anyway I am sure you would rather hear about the tights than about my great great grandfather! So let me tell you, he was a glass maker, and came down from Newcastle to the Midlands in 1849, when my great grandfather was a baby.

Sorry, the tights! They are 10 denier sheer, with a high leg lace trimmed panty and reinforced toe. I expected them to be a glossy as Charnos Sheer Lustre but they are not. The seams are conventional raised seams, and I was very surprised to see that there is no gusset. This is unusual in any tights that claim to be of quality, especially in the extra large size.
But extra large is what they are not, not particularly. The crotch is about 3 inches lower than it should be, even with the legs fully stretched. Of course my legs offer a challenge for any pair of tights, as I am 6'4" tall! I would not recommend these Couture tights to anyone taller than about 5'10" to 6'0".
As I said, I would not describe the tights as Super Gloss, but apart from the poor sizing, they feel and look all right: quite soft and smooth in fact. However I shall not be rushing to snap up the remaining pairs at TKMaxx!
