For those who have not heard, Second Life (http://secondlife.com ) is a 3-D life simulation program in which you create and control your own avatar, through which you interact with other people (via their avatars) and do most of the things that you can do in Real Life, and a few things that you can't. You can have money and buy things to use or to wear. Basic accounts are free, but it is useful to have a bit of money in the local currency (you get about just over L$500 for £1.00).
Smoov wrote an article about SL, which you can read here. I can now tell you the best places in SL to get your pantyhose or tights. SL provides a great opportunity for the more timid amongst us to wear pantyhose or tights openly in public! For technical reasons, some tights can be worn with shorts and some cannot – they have to be worn with a skirt – or a kilt. I often wear mine with a kilt – nobody minds, unless you visit the Scotland section of SL, where you might get a comment.
Anyway, I have been visiting Second Life a bit recently though really I am a complete novice. However I have started a group there called 'Nylon Genes' (original, eh?) for guys and gals who wear and appreciate tights (that naturally includes pantyhose).
The group has been going for about a month and now has 40 members. What really surprised me was the number of female members that we have attracted – they account for nearly 50% of the membership. Even allowing for the fact that some of the 'female' members are cross-dressers or men who want to explore their feminine side by having a female avatar, there are apparently a lot of genuine girls out there who have the nylon gene.
There is not a lot of point in having a group if you do nothing with it, so last Saturday we had a first get together. We announced the meeting and gave out the location. Finding a private venue was not easy, but in the end Smoov borrowed a room floating in the air somewhere above the landscape and furnished it with sofas and a carpet. Others brought things such as a drinks cabinet.

Six guys and five girls came to the meeting, including members of the editorial team here, and people I have known from LAUF and tights-excite. Smoov gave out virtual coffee, and I gave out Nylon Genes t-shirts. We even signed up a new member at the meeting – a girl who does not usually wear hosiery, but joined because we were such good company! We all showed off our tights and discussed where we had bought them in SL and the technical details of making tights in SL.
I said to one of the girls who came, "I understand what it is that men like about tights, but some girls have obviously got the nylon gene too – so what is it that appeals to you girls?"
She said "Because they're soft, sexy, warm and cover up bare legs!"
Another girl said, "Tights are silky, sexy, fun, smooth, delicate, lovely, powerful"
So now you know. I said, "They are all those things. And yes, they give women power over men!"
(We knew all along that we are putty in their hands when they are wearing, but it seems that the secret is out!)
Helen, the owner of Tyghts.com was there – yes, it is a RL website and it is also a SL tights shop. She showed and modelled her latest creations: suspender tights and seamless tights with (a nice touch) the 'tyghts' logo on the back of the waistband. Helen is also a talented pop singer as well as a lover of nylon.
Well it was a great first meeting – to be repeated at 9:00pm GMT (1.00pm SL time) next Saturday. We may even see you there!
Someone said, "More pictures, please!" We forgot to take any pictures at the first meeting, but here is one taken at the second meeting on 10th March.
