I am a member of an internet chat room where I have a number of good friends. I will not mention its name here, because it has nothing to do with hosiery. All the regulars there know that I wear tights and some of them visit this blog from time to time. If you do, say Hi!
They are all cool with me wearing – it is really a non-issue for them, though there is sometimes a joking reference to tights in the conversation. I met some of them offline last year and I have a good friendship with them. We tease each other a lot, keep each other cheerful, and basically help to bear each other's troubles.
One of the ladies in the chat room lives quite close to me, and we occasionally go out for a drink. Being quite shy, I am not a big 'pub' person and rarely drink out, but C. and I decided to meet up one evening recently in a local pub and have a drink. It was a warm summer's evening and I was wearing shorts and tights, and I decided to go to the pub like that and see what happened. I already knew, from previous conversations, that it would not bother C.
I thought of wearing Max Mara l'invisible tights, but although they are probably the stealthiest tights on the market, they are not cheap and I did not want to open my only packet of those. So I settled for Charnos Light Fantastic instead. They are 7 denier compared with Max Mara's 6, and they have a bit more shine. However I reckoned that in the twilight and in the subdued pub lighting, they would not be visible.
On my way, walking along the road, a car passed with some youths in it who gave me a catcall. (That is something that has not happened before!) I do not believe that they saw or knew that I was wearing tights. It was twilight and there was not sufficient natural light to tell, but it was not dark enough for cars to be using headlights either. I reckon I was catcalled because I was wearing shorts and my legs did not look too bad! Of course they didn't look bad because of what I was wearing, but I doubt whether that fact registered.
Anyway I met C. at the pub and we sat outside drinking and talking. Not once did I see her looking at my legs, and the topic of Legwear was never mentioned. We had other things to discuss. Altogether we spent about an hour an a half there at a table in front of the pub, until it started to get chilly and time was being called.
The next day in the chat room, in response to a comment of mine, C. told me that she had noticed that I was wearing my tights.
So wearing can be a non-issue and an non-event between friends, and that is how it should be.

Nice story Geraden...nice event...nice friend. Congratulation. I did hose
and shorts for one week in our summer residence but only in the garden and
late nigths, the sunset and sunrise at the inlet. I am not that brave as
you are - not yet.
It occurred to me that the catcall might have just been because it looked
to the youths like you have shaved legs, although the way tights improves
the shape of the legs is a consideration too.
I was very encouraged by reading about your pub evening and agree that
wearing doesn't or shouldn't need to be an issue with friends but was
wondering how you initially broached the subject for it to be the case?
