Found your blog by accident while I was surfing the net. You have a fantastic site and it was a pleasure for me to become acquainted with your opinions, thoughts and stories. Unfortunately I hadn’t the opportunity to read all the entries now, but sure I will continue reading.

I am a 45 years old man from Finland and a keen friend of tights. I have been dressing up in hose from my early adolescence, first secretly for many years, but nowadays more or less openly. Almost everyone (my family, friends and colleagues) knows that I dress up in a pair of tights from the early morning to late evening, although underneath my pants or jeans. Tights are for me a fetish, but they are even much more. I just feel comfortable in them and they keep me warm and cosy.

I think you are my first visitor from Finland. Your climate must give you lots of opportunities for wearing tights! Since you write English so well, maybe you would like to tell us more about male tights wearing in Finland. Do you know of any other male wearers? What attitudes have you experienced towards men who wear? What brands are available in your country and how do you buy your tights?

I do hope you come back to read more, and that you enjoy what you read.

Thank you for your kind worlds. It is always nice to find people who share the same interest and seem to be both vise and civilized.

Yes, you are right. The winter in Finland is cold, and both autumn and spring are chilly. So you have a good reason to dress warmly. And tights give you the opprtunity to choose proper undergarments and hosiery when the meter alters from +0 to -25 celsius. But the Finnish summer is warm, as warm as it is in England, if not even hotter. That’s the reason why I wear tights from late September to early May. But I’m not a masochist, and I leave my tights voluntary in my drawer during June, July and August.

There is a good selection of tights in the Finnish shops and departement stores. International brands, particulary German (Falke is my favourite, especially Seidenglatt 40) are available, and some of them are the same as you buy in England. But there is also a very good Finnish manufacturer, The Vogue Group. Most of their brands and models are of very high quality. Please check their home page: http://www.voguegroup.fi/. I am fond of The Amar tights but Vogue is good brand as well.

Hi again,

Today morning it was + 0 degrees Celsius and I dressed up in a pair of amber coloured Le Mote 20 denier tights. I wear them under my black jeans at the office. I bought them during our holidays in Sweden from a supermarket. They were cheap and I hadn’t any expectations, I just needed one pair. But to my wonder they have proved to be very durable, probably because they are a bit too large for my size.

You asked me of the Finnish mental climate to men wearing tights. Regarding the popularity of the topic on different forums there are a lot of tights wearing men in our country, no doubt. But it is impossible to say how many we are. Hundreds, at least. The discussions are held on common boards usually under the headline ‘Fashion’. There are many participants, but you can hardly ever discuss in peace. There are always those who find problems with ‘perverted’ and ‘homosexual’ tights wearing men, and there are a general confusion between the concepts ‘transvestite’, ‘cross-dresser’, ‘fetishist’, and just ‘ordinary’ tights wearing men. To share your experience in that climate is frustrating, and the discussions seldom lead to any deeper ponderings. But anyway, there are always nice and spiritual individuals who have sense of humour. Together with those it’s always nice to share your experiences.

I work in the city centre of Helsinki and all the large department stores are close my office. Finding good tights is not a problem for me.

It is a pleasure to read your comments. I had no idea the there were so many male wearers of tights in Finland. Maybe the winter climate has something to do with it, or maybe the nylon gene is more common in Finland than elsewhere!

It is hard to have a civilised discussion on the topic of males wearing tights in a general fashion forum. There will always be those who bring with them their prejudices and misinformation. I used to participate on such a forum in the UK, but the owners made it plain to me that I was not welcome there. It seemed to have something to do with the fact that I spoke in favour of men wearing tights, however other people could apparently argue for or against male hosiery wearing with impunity.

There are places that you can discuss such issues with like-minded people – I would recommend http://tights-excite.com. This site is owned by good friends of mine and (among other good things) it has both a forum and a chat room where you would be very welcome. The most popular time for chat is after 10:00pm UK time, but the room is open 24 hours and you may find people in at any time. Also if I am online you can always contact me via Yahoo Messenger and I will come into the chat room.

Falke Seidenglatt are one of my favourites, in the 15 den variety. The Vogue site looks attractive; thank you for the link.

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I will certainly check that Tights Excite site.

By the way, I don’t want to exaggerate the number of tights wearing men in Finland. I think they are as many as in other European countries in general. Nor is there anything special with the Nordic tights genes. Fact is that the Scandinavian women’s everyday clothing is rather practically oriented compared to the Central and South European (and Russian) ‘chic style’ including skirts, high heels and nylons, for example. One concept of equality between genders – which is a credit in the Nordic democracy – is the women's right to dress up as badly as men.

I noticed that some of your inserts on your blog are preserved by a password. Could I please have it for further reading?
