House of Fraser in Birmingham have sprung a surprise Sale. I noticed on Wednesday that a September Sale was starting Thursday 29th, with 50% reductions being advertised.
So after work on Thursday I went to have a look at the hosiery Department. The sale racks included Gerbe, Falke, Max Mara and Wolford, amongst other brands.
There were a lot of Gerbe tights, but very few in size 5, and those only in black. I don't wear black sheers, though good ones can make a woman's legs look very attractive. Cheap ones, of course, just look cheap.
In Falke I was looking for my favourites Shelina and Seidenglatt, but I was to be disappointed. There were no l'Invisible tights among the Max Mara, either.
Wolford was more promising. There were some Fatal 15s at half price (£11), even some in caramel, which you hardly ever see in the sale. There were no caramel ones in large, or I would have got a pair for me, but I bought the caramel ones that they had in small for a good friend of mine. There were some black Fatal 15s in large, medium and small. The best bargains were the Satin Touch 20s - a promotional offer of a three pair pack for £15. I thought I might get some of those.
A nice assistant called Samantha rang up my purchases, and tried to interest me in a store card, but I declined.
Later I told my friend about my visit to HoF, and suggested that we could visit the sale together. She said she would love to but she had no free time from work. I told her I would be going back on Friday anyway, so she told me what she wanted.
When I returned to HoF on Friday, at least half of the Wolfords had gone, while the other brands seemed hardly to have been touched. I looked for the tights my friend has asked me to. The Falke Pure Matt were available, but only at full price. There were plenty of Falke Wonderpro bottom lifting tights, but I didn't think she would appreciate those. My friend wanted some Wolford Magic Touch – but HoF had only the Satin Touch in the sale. I could not check back with her, so I had to use my judgement. I still think 3 pairs for £15 is not bad for Wolfords, so I bought a pack in small and a pack in large (those were for me).
The nice assistant was on duty again and she recognised me from the day before. She asked me if the tights I had bought yesterday were all right for my girlfriend (!!). I said that with Wolford Fatals you couldn't go wrong, but I was not so sure about the ones I had got today, because I had not been able to check. She said I could always bring them back with the receipt if they had not been opened.
Well, it looks as if I shall have to do just that. When I got home, I looked at the ones in Large that I had bought for myself. It was only then that I noticed that Wolford make the Satin Touch in XL. To my way of thinking this means that L would probably not be big enough for me. The L are supposed to fit up to 5'6", the XL up to 5'8". So the L ones will have to go back: never mind, maybe I can have another chat with Samantha!
Later I explained to my friend what I had got for her. She was very interested, but she wanted to know the colour of the Satin Touch. I said, "cosmetic – a sort of light beige". She wasn't keen on that colour because she prefers tan. So that is two packs to go back!! Oh well, you cannot win them all, but I had already got her some nice Fatal 15s in her favourite shade of caramel.
Anyway I had lots of fun shopping for tights.
