I don't get too bothered about people seeing me in tights these days - after all it is only clothing. (Ok, rather nice clothing, that has lots of benefits as well as making you feel good and relaxed, but it is clothing still!)

Pantyhose as an art form

I can report that Geraden's legs were impeccably turned out. I wore 20 denier black sheers. I was ready to explain that this was a Spanish fashion, where men wear sheer socks that are called 'calcetines ejecutivos'. But no one asked.

I had nearly completed my tour of the car boot sale when I cam to a stall owned by a couple in their thirties. They looked like an ordinary middle class couple. The woman wore trousers and a jumper. The man was wearing shorts and sheer hose!

"My darling husband has recently taken to wearing my tights under his trousers. I asked him why. He said it was because of the cold, but he later admitted he likes the feel." You be the agony aunt! You write a response!

I remember when ... Every newspaper and magazine and nearly every commercial break on TV had a hosiery ad.

Online hosiery retailers: I look for whether or not they carry men's ranges, whether or not they have an advice page for men and whether the language used in the site is sexist.

I am not sure I am getting the same smoothness with waxing as with newly shaved legs, but on the other hand I am not getting the same roughness that you get with not so newly shaved legs!

She seemed to assume that I was uncomfortable being in a hosiery department, holding a packet of tights and waiting to be served. With a grin, I said to the ladies, "How do you know these aren't for me?"

The man I saw chosing hosiery was on his own, and somehow I got the impression that he was buying for himself. I thought of going up to him and saying 'Hi, do I know you? I'm Geraden'.

Long gone are the days when I would have turned as red as a beetroot and beaten a hasty retreat if an assistant in a hosiery department approached me! I made eye contact, smiled at her and said that I was all right, thank you.
