Last night may have been the coldest June night in Britain since 1963, but the days are warming up nicely. Yesterday was the first time in long trousers for me for a week. Last week I was on leave from work, wearing shorts and usually tights all day. Yesterday I got up and wore a pair of Silkies TLC under my trousers, but before I left the house I decided that my legs would be too warm.
So I hurriedly looked around for a pair of lighter tights, and found some Marks and Spencer Bare that I had from last summer. The only odd thing, if you can call it that, was that they are open toe tights. Instead of a closed foot, the toe part is only closed at one point, about a third of the way across. This makes a kind of 'thong' between the big toe and the other toes, and the toes come out at either side. If they are a good match for skin colour and worn under the right kind of sandals, you get invisibly hosed legs and bare toes at the same time. The thong is very comfortable. The bonus is that you cannot get a ladder from the toe, because there is no toe!
So I quickly changed into these and wore them all day. My legs felt happy and not too warm.
So what are they like? From the packet they look like fine crêpe and as you put the on they are very stretchy. No problems with length, even for me. The fabric reminds me of Falke Shelina, though it is not really the same. It is nice to wear tights even in the warmer weather, and these M&S Bare ones are pretty good. Last year they were also available in regular sandal toe (sheer closed toe), and a non-slip variety. The sandal toe and the open toe were the same fabric; the non-slip were completely different and not nearly such a good fit.
It might seem strange to wear open toe tights with closed toe shoes, but who was to know?
I shall have to check whether the same range is available this summer. I hope it is, because the two styles I have mentioned have the advantage of fitting better than my other favourite summer tights, Charnos Light Fantastic.
I have never really liked the thought of open-toe tights even though the
tights with them look great aprt from the open-toe. I guess its the same
reason as why I hate open footed tights etc. I just prefer the whole
complete tights, I really think they look so much better & feel so much
better, even when I wear the whale net tights i have to wear shiny tan
tights underneath
I enjoy wearing tights, and do so neatly every day. I am hetro, and
married, and my wife is supporting my pleasure.
