The following is taken from an article by Alex Cameron dated 29.08.2007, which appeared in the Mid Devon Star. The subject is the recent Plymtree Country Fayre on the August Bank Holiday Monday this year. The speaker is Tina Gibbins, an organiser of the event.
"We were not sure if we would get any entries for the 'Men in Tights' competition but we had so many volunteers that we ran out of green pairs of tights. The men were awarded cans of beer for taking part but some of them said they would have preferred to keep the tights."
Great idea, Tina, to have a 'Men in Tights' competition! And it seems that some of the men in Devon have the nylon gene! Though Robin Hood notwithstanding, green is not a very flattering colour to wear.
I wonder if the popularity of tights among Devon men could have anything to do with the fact that I wore opaques black or dark brown tights with shorts when I was on holiday in Devon in April and May this year? Surely not! And anyway, I went nowhere near Plymtree!

Well , this is all great news for the cause, thank you for sharing this
with us.
Oy! I have some fabulous olive green opaque tights - velvety and very
comfortable. They look great (Aristoc), especially with a matching tshirt
(not matching shorts etc - one can have too much green/olive).
I think men's hosiery manufacturers are missing a good bet on olive, at
least for tights, if not sheer legwear. It goes well with khakis and
browns, and is a more masculine color.
Thank you all for your comments.
