A few days ago, I won a competition on tights-excite.com for a pair of "Floral Lace Design Tights from Couture from their Designer Hosiery Collection in gorgeous Carnival Red".
Those who are curious can read it up on Olga and Mike's November page (always good for a laugh, I find) and in the forum.
I hadn't wanted to enter the comp because red floral lacy tights are not really my thing, and I wanted to let someone else have the fun of winning. However Mike (or was it Olga – I forget which) persuaded me to enter. There was some discussion about whether I could enter anyway, but when all was said and done Pat himself (the t-e webmaster) had entered, and Sal, who always has the final word, said it was all right. Anyway Pat got it wrong, and despite a fit of last minute doubts by myself, I got the correct answer.
So Mike sent me the tights and they arrived yesterday while I was at work. Fortunately today happens to be my birthday (hint, hint) so the package from Mike arrived with some birthday mail, and therefore caused no comment.
They are 100% nylon to start off with! Oddly enough the packet says the tights are for foot sizes 8 ½ to 11. (Hmm – my feet are size 11.) They are made for hips 42" (mine are 40"). Even so, I have grave doubts that these will ever fit me, whatever Mike may say. He said that I was only one size, so one size tights should fit. Still, being a dedicated follower of tights fashion, I suppose I had better try them on.
Ok - I opened the packet. The colour is called foxglove, but think shocking pink. These are vintage tights – they do not make packaging like that these days, and they have a sewn-in Christian Dior label, which shows class. It does not say what denier they are – hard to tell with 100% nylon, but if I said 10 den I would probably be close.
I tried them on. As I feared, they are not long enough. The crotch is 6 inches lower than nature intended. And there is a little ladder starting on the knee. How did that get there?
See, I knew I shouldn't have entered. The tights will have to go in the kids' dressing up box.
