Geraden's Tips No. 11
Don't you hate it when you find that you have put on your tights, only to find that they are pulling around the crotch in a strange way? As you look down your leg to see what the problem is, you find that the lines of stitches in the tights are not straight, but spiral around the leg. Is not always easy to put that right without taking the garment off and starting again.
So how to prevent it in the first place? What I do is shake out the tights leg completely before I start, so that at least it starts off straight. Then I work my thumbs down the leg, gathering material as I go.
My hope is that, when I get to the foot, the toe seam will be straight between my thumbs. Often, despite my best efforts, it isn't. In that case I always rotate the leg inwards until the seam is straight before putting the hose on my leg. This almost always works for me.
It works for me because when I gather the hose I tend to turn each leg slightly outwards. So rotating in inwards (left leg to the right, right leg to the left) compensates for my natural bias in gathering the material.
Find what works for you! It may be that in your case the legs need to be rotated outwards, or maybe both legs need to be rotated to the left or to the right. We are all different!
A trivial tip which might save some annoyance!

I agree with you on how to go about preventing the twist. However, if the
twist does occur, then I think that it might be better to wet your hands
and then use the palms and finger to untwist the hosiery. You shouldn't
need to pinch or grab the hosiery to untwist it. The wet hands flatly
wrapped around the leg should be enough.
