Geraden's Tips No. 2
Washing machines can tangle tights, and if there are rough edges on any of the components in the tub, the nylon can be easily ruined. The sheerer the tights, the more vulnerable they are. So usually the advice on hosiery packets is to wash by hand.
There is an alternative that avoids these problems, and that is to use a hosiery wash bag. These soft nylon mesh bags with a zip closure can be bought cheaply from many of the online stores. Legwear4men do one for £1.99.
If you want a famous name wash bag, you can get one by Gerbe. You simply put your sheer tights inside it, close the zip and pop the bag in the washing machine on a warm (not hot) setting. Do not overfill, so that the water can circulate.

Before using the bag, you should examine it carefully, paying special attention to the zip and the thread that the zip is sewn in with. I say this because the zip in mine had some very thick nylon thread (rather like fishing line) and the sharp end of that thread killed off a pair of tights. (I should in fairness add that it was not a Gerbe hosiery bag, nor was it from Legwear4men.)
