Two of the most popular parts of this blog are the personal stories and reviews. That is what a recent survey found. Everyone has one personal story of how he came to be hooked on tights, and I have already told mine. I will gladly publish others' stories so long as they are broadly in-keeping with the site, but at present I have none to publish. (hint, hint)
I do however have a lot of review material which I have not yet put on the site. I did a lot of reviews for tights-excite.com, a site which was taken offline last year. The vague promise that the site would return this year has not yet happened, and there seems to be no indication that it will happen. So I no longer feel any reason not to publish here reviews of tights that I have already reviewed there.
I am going to start with some tights that I have been wearing a lot recently. For a long time they were among my 'tights for best' – and as such they got little wear. Then they developed a ladder (heaven knows how - I was very careful with them) and after that I have been wearing them frequently to sleep in.
They are by the French company, Gerbe. No, they are not the recently released men's tights - I have yet to try those - but they are nevertheless very suitable for male wearers. They are called Sunlight 20 Denier.
These tights are sheer to waist, with unobtrusively reinforced toes and reciprocated (i.e. shaped) heels. They have a silk backed gusset lining which goes part way up the back panel and a sewn-on elasticated waistband bearing the Gerbe name. They are fully boarded. The fabric composition includes 11% lycra.
The shade I got is a golden tan colour called beige doré. They have a fairly high sheen and the quality is evident in the packaging and presentation, as well as in the article itself. They are soft and stretchy. There will be very few people that these tights will not fit. I got the largest of the five sizes, and it fits me with no problem.
The knit is very fine and they are fairly durable. Overall, they are very nice tights with a lovely feel to them, though, like most Gerbe products, they do not come cheap. Mine were £5.97 in the House of Fraser Sale (reduced from £11.95).
