It still allow in the UK to wear anything - no illegal, maybe depend on country, I was wear tights and denim mini skirt that seem to be allow in public Ive wearing many time as cops passing me without stop or ask anything
~ Doug ~
In the US it's illegal to be dressed indecently, but not illegal to crossdress. Also, where would you draw the line? Some people might claim that all the boys wearing girls skinny jeans are crossdressing.
~ Rod ~
is it legal to crossdress when outside as a female
~ Andy M ~
epilators have been suggested. I've just bought a Braun and done my first epilate session. So far so good, but still a long way from hair free legs (which are essential for any tights wearing!!!)
~ Adrian ~
With winter on the way I shall be cutting down on heating bills by wearing opaque tights with a wool kilt.
~ 2craze2 ~
@badleg: Try Elbeo Sheer Magic or Elbeo Caresse. Size XL is available. They really do help...
~ 2craze2 ~
Ordered some tights from Emilio Cavallini, they're great! Good stretch, warm, opaque. Good replacement for my regular sock-wearing.

Gerbe for men

posted Saturday, 3 February 2007
Geradenby Geraden

Hard on the heels of No Nonsense's men's pages, Gerbe have published their own men's pages!

Gerbe of France is one of the premier European hosiery companies. They make tights of a very high quality – those that I have tried have been excellent in fit and feel. Last autumn the company announced their intention to produce a range of men's tights, comprising both sheers and opaques, the latter with and without feet. Apparently they took advice from male wearers on the French c-tendence forum. See the thread on LAUF.

Here is a quote from Gerbe:
(with acknowledgement to collants-mode.fr)

My quick translation, (which PH is welcome to correct!):

"All these products will be in packs reserved specifically for the MEN's range, and thus distinguished completely from products destined for women; customers will therefore be able very easily and without confusion to choose a product that is reserved exclusively for them."

Gerbe have therefore gone much further than No Nonsense in designing their range of tights specially for men. They have also linked their men's page from the Gerbe.com home page.

The men's page is here:
http://www.gerbe.com/gal_men.asp.
The products are à découvrir prochainement – available shortly.

Meanwhile Gerbe have taken the trouble to present some high quality images of their forthcoming products. The resolution is extremely high –  you can even see the individual stitches in the tights! They have depicted the sheers being worn with shorts – excellent! The model wearing the products is not the bodybuilder type favoured by some other companies marketing men's tights; but an attractive, normal-looking man - the sort of man you would be happy for your daughter to bring home. That seems to me a good marketing choice!

I cannot believe that it is a coincidence that both No Nonsense and Gerbe have published men's web pages at more or less the same time. The time is obviously right: what is happening on the catwalks proves that. But I suspect that there is more to it than that – I guess that Gerbe have seen the NN pages and said, "hey, we have got something better than that – let's get it out!"

I think other manufacturers will be looking closely at these developments and deciding whether this is a band wagon that they need to be on!

Thanks to Keith for having his eye on the Gerbe website and alerting me to the publication of the men's pages.

Hello Geraden,

  • It is nice to know that the market is expanding and changing. I think if a company can make $$$$$ by selling to men, they will make a change. :)

  • I just hope women never stop wearing hosiery. They look too nice wearing them. Nothing more aweful looking, than a nicely dressed lady with naked legs.

  • Keep wearing and be happy.

Good to see you around, Wolfords.

What is the difference between a woman and a lady?

A lady would not be seen out with bare legs except on the beach. A lady always wears good hosiery.

Hi Gerden,

  • I just happen to say women on one part and lady on another.

Sorry, Wolfords, I did not make myself very clear. It is not a riddle or a joke, and certainly not a reflection on what you said. It is just my slightly non-PC opinion. If a woman wants to be thought a lady, she should wear hosiery to complete her elegant outfit!

Hi Geraden.

Thanks for sharing with us. It's exciting. It seems that this is the biggest attempt from a mainstream company. Gerbe has a bigger product line for men than Wolford, and it seems that they will be promoting their products at trade shows.

I'm very glad.

-- Sincerely, and with thanks, Eugene T.S. Wong

The collants-mode.fr site has now published the Gerbe for Men press release as a .pdf file. Yes, it is in French, and no, I am not publishing a translation! Sorry, no time for that. It is just press release blurb and some pics that we have already seen on the Gerbe website.

The only new information is the recommended retail prices and colours. (Approximate sterling equivalents are shown.)

Men Opaque 70 denier, black, €34.90 (£23.00)

Men Opaque 70 denier footless, black, €34.90 (£23.00)

Men Voile 20 denier black / ramier (looks somewhere between beige and taupe), €23.90 (£15.82)

Men Satin 20 denier black / beige doré, €28.50 (£19.00)

Men Drain'Up 20 denier knee high, black, €10.90 (£7.20)

Men Drain'Up 40 denier knee high, black / anthracite, €14.50 (£9.50)

Men Drain'Up Winter 20 denier opaque knee high, black / chocolate, €19.90 (£13.20)

Gerbe is one of the top quality manufacturers, and you can bet that these products will be good. However I think that the recommended prices are too high to tempt many non-wearing men into wearing. That is essential if ventures like this are to succeed. Gerbe seems to have got everything else right, but unattractive pricing could be their undoing.

I just hope that in 12 months' time we do not hear Gerbe saying, "We tried it, but it didn't work."

I see that the articles posted to the right read, "The pantyhose comes with a larger belt than for women as well as an opening". Does that mean that they will have a fly?

Full details of Gerbe's mens range are now on their web site!!!!

However, the sizing is quoted as S,M,L,XL but when you go to the size guide it seems to be the womans one as stated numerically.

Also, I'd like to know if Gerbe intend to retail in the high street shops - I did e mail Elanor a few months ago but if anyone knows the answer to this please can you post it. What I'd like is to see them in the men's section of say House of Fraser or some other good quality outlet so as to give good visible P.R. Maybe M & S Autograph Range? At least when I wear openly, if challenged (which doesn't bother me), I can say that they are a men's product on sale for all to buy and perhaps the individual should keep up with the fashion trends (I am 44 year old but one of my resolutions is that as I get older I won't be joining the dark brown/olive green twead jacket, flat cap and tank top bridge (not that I have anything against anyone who wears such clothes that is - each to their own).

I know Gerbe are quality products and I'm willing to pay the extra price but I thing we need to encourage Gerbe and other suppliers to make this step to get full, visible acceptance.

Also, I believe it's the London Fashion Show this week..... will the designers be following Milan with leggings? etc. Let's hope so.

Regards to all,

Keith

Geraden,

You alluded to No Nonsense men's pages, but I didn't see anything on their site. Can you help me find?

Thanks for your comments, Keith.

I find Gerbe's women's sizing fine for me and I am no midget.

Ken - the No Nonsense men's pages are not linked from the main site as yet. They can be found here: http: //www.nononsense.com/mens.aspx
