This blog is part of an international community of male hosiery enthusiasts. I have friends here from England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Russia, USA, Canada, and the Lebanon. Judging by the results of search engine clicks, visitors have come from many other places, such as Japan, Turkey, Croatia and Israel. It is a great feeling to be part of a world wide community!
So far I have left out Finland, the home of our contributor Kaj, because the subject of this post is tights from Finland.

I did not even know that Finland has a native hosiery industry, but it does, as a look at the voguegroup website will confirm. Kaj and I have chatted a number of times online and it turns out that we have quite a lot in common besides hosiery. To cut a long story short, Kaj has sent me some tights from Finland, and I am going to send him some British ones: probably Charnos, or Marks and Spencer.
The package from Finland arrived yesterday, containing two packets of tights - one under the Amar brand name (which I am reviewing here) and one under the Vogue brand which I am saving for later.
Historically Finland was for a long time under the shadow of its neighbours Sweden and Russia, and it has in fact a very large Swedish-speaking minority. It is therefore no surprise that the tights packets are in Swedish and Russian as well as Finnish.
The Amar Harmony tights are in fact made by the Vogue Group. They are 20 denier appearance with 12% Lycra content. The colour selected by Kaj was suntan, which is an nice European tan colour, as distinct from the brasher American tan colour. The tights come in 3 sizes, of which I have the largest, '44-48'. They have a gusset and a reinforced panty.
The construction of the feet is unusual. Not only do they have reciprocated, reinforced heels, but the reinforcement of the toes goes all the way over the sole of the foot to the heel . (With apologies for the photo - I could not afford a professional hosiery model!)
A check of online prices reveals that they are available for €7.90 (about £5.30) from ferillo.com. That seems to put them beyond the price of everyday sheers into the range of midprice hosiery, so I would really have expected flat seams.
However these are good tights, fitting well and having a nice soft sheen.
