Farewell, Tights-excite

An unexpected message was posted on the tights-excite Forum on Monday 31st July. In it the site owner, Sal, said that she had decided to give tights-excite a rest for a while. The site would be closing on 4th August, the reason being other commitments.

Sal went on to say that she had started a Yahoo group with the same name and as much as possible of the old site would be transferred to the group. She said she would e-mail all members the details of the Yahoo Group. The name tights-excite.com has been kept for a possible return at a later time. She concluded, "I want to thank everyone for posting and adding to the site and hopefully you will join me on my group."

I hope I may be forgiven if my response is an emotional one. Sal's site is my favourite site and it has been a big part of my life for the last two years, from the very beginning and before, in fact. The reason I started writing Geraden's Blog was to support her and to draw visitors in to her site. I was also happy and honoured to be part of the Admin team and to write my Column for the site - even though edition two of that was destined not to see the light of day. Like most people with whom I have spoken, I am sad that t-e is closing. 'Devastated' is a word that I heard used in chat the other day. It pretty well sums up my feelings too: that t-e has closed in these circumstances, so quickly, and just a few days short of its second birthday.

But things do not run themselves, not even good things like t-e. No one truly appreciates the tremendous effort and commitment that was necessary to keep the site going. I know is hard to believe, but the owners have busy lives apart from t-e, and those lives do not stand still. Sal and Pat are real people with a home, jobs and growing kids. I have been privileged to see just a little of that. They deserve our thanks for giving us the lovely tights-excite experience for two years. Much as I regret the passing of t-e, I cannot blame them for wanting a bit of a break. Maybe some of us could have made it easier for them by expecting a little less!

I have made many friends through tights-excite and its predecessors. I am glad that when the plug is pulled on t-e there will be other ways of maintaining contact. The new Yahoo Group is in place, and I have already applied to join! I would urge others to continue to show appreciation for the lovely tights-girl Sal and for the hard work that Pat has put in, by doing the same.
