In previous posts I reported on the new Marks and Spencer range of ladder-resist tights, which come in 3 denier appearances. I have already reviewed the 15 denier and 10 denier varieties.
In Britain we are currently having the warmest April weather since 1946. When I wear trousers (which I do mainly for work) I do not feel right unless I have a pair of tights on underneath. In the unseasonably warm weather I thought it was a good time to change down a gear to 7 denier tights, so what better opportunity to wear the new ladder-resist ones from M&S?
Really I could just repeat the review of the 10 denier ones. The 7 denier ones are very similar in construction, with a broad soft waistband, reinforced seam strip and lined gusset. They are sheer to waist apart from the reinforced toes. The fabric is lighter and finer than the 10 denier fabric, otherwise I can see and feel no difference. They have the samer matt look and, in the natural tan colour, are very, very stealthy.
Having tried all three varieties I think M&S are onto a winner here, though they may have an uphill task to overcome the common perception of run-resist tights as hard and harsh. For this reason, I think that though the quality supports the price tag of £3.50, the price is rather on the high side for them to become a popular choice.
The tights and provide no real compression. The 10 and 7 denier ones feel tight at first, but once the fibres have relaxed with wearing, these are not tights that hug your legs. However the soft feel is a plus point and the tights should last longer than normal plain knit tights, though – as the packet says – they are 'ladder resist' not 'no ladder'.
