While I was on the South Coast recently, I took the opportunity to visit Brighton, a place I have never been to before, and to look up one of my oldest internet friends. Or as he prefers me to say, one of my longest standing internet friends. He is known to the readers of this blog as Mike, the author of Mike and Olga's Wonderful World of Welts.
I took my son down to Southampton for the University Open Day and an interview, and then drove on to Brighton. Though we made an early start, I did not arrive in Brighton until just after 12 noon, and made a hurried telephone call to Mike saying that I was lost in a strange place.
Apparently I was only just round the block and Mike came to find me. We managed to park the car somewhere and I went back to Mike's apartment for a coffee. We had lunch in a Spanish Tapas bar and very pleasant it was too. Mike expressed his solicitude that other interests of mine were getting in the way of blogging, and said that I needed to publish more to maintain the high level of interest that this blog has attracted.
I told him that although I have a number of other interests, the reason that posts had been scare recently was because of the change of the Blog-City administration iterface from Version 5 to Version 6.
You may have noiced that I have lost my banner logo - hopefully it will be back soon, when I find out how to put it back (it was easy in Version 5!)
After lunch, Mike took me out on Brighton Pier, and Mike took a few pictures. There was bright, warm sunshine, but there was still a chill in the air, hence the thick jumper. The Silkies microfiber opaque tights (dark brown) kept the chill off my legs. If you do not want to afford Activskin, these really are the best opaques going.
Mike was wearing 7 denier sheers under his trousers: he said it was not warm enough for shorts, and he congratulated me for wearing noticeable opaques in public. I said, if one could not wear openly in Brighton, reputedly one of the most liberal cities in Britain, where could one wear openly?
This was however the first time that I had been out and about with a fellow wearer. Brighton was quite crowded for the time of year and dozens of people saw me. No one gave any reaction, much less said anything.
Mike and I did catch quite a few glaces being made at my legs, particularly by females. (Men, unless they have the nylon gene, don't look at other men's legs) Some of the women smiled nicely at me, and whenever they did so, I smiled back at them. It was particularly the younger women who reacted in this way, and none of the reactions was bad at all!
While we were on the pier I got a text from my son saying that he had finished his schedule for the day, and was ready to go home. I said I would be on my way shortly, but it could take up to two hours to get back to pick him up. (We had already arranged the time that I would be back, based on what he thought his schedule was.)
So I had to bid goodbye to Mike and make my way back along the South Coast.
Apart from a very enjoyable encounter with my friend, I had the fun of driving all day in tights and shorts. I covered something over 400 miles and was pretty shattered when i got home, though I just managed to chat to Mike on Yahoo and thank him once again for his hospitality.

Congratulations on a successful outing! You're a braver man than I am
(yet, at any rate), but it was encouraging to read about the positive
reactions you received.
Well written G! It was a pleasure to see you after all these years. If any
of your other readers/supporters want to meet up - they just need to let me
know - if I'm available I would love to spend time with other wearers.
Maybe next time you could stay longer and get to know the town a bit
better.
regards
Mike
